Som Tam Salad (Thai Papaya Salad)

Som Tam is a famous street food in Thailand and is popular with the tourists. It is made up of shredded unripe papaya or green mangoes and tossed with a sweet, tangy and spicy dressing along with grated peanut for extra crunch! It is usually served as an appetiser.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large Green Papaya or Mango Julienned
  • 1 each Carrot Julienned
  • 2 tbsp Palm Sugar
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 2 each Red Chillies
  • 1 tbsp Dried Prawns
  • 1 tbsp Roasted Peanuts
  • 4 qty Cherry Tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Fish Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Calamansi Lime Juice
  • 100 grams Snake Beans Cut and Blanched

Instructions
 

  • Shred the papaya and carrrot and soak in some water.
  • Blend the sugar, garlic, chilles, prawn and peanuts then add lime juice, fish sauce and mix to a dressing.
  • In a big bowl, add in all the ingredients together and toss with added peanuts.

Notes

Do not buy the wrong type of papaya. The typical papaya we ate as fruit is too ripe for making salad. 
You can replace green papaya with green mangoes.
